We had a super busy October and November. Most of October was just chilling around the house while we waited for Morgan to arrive. We were certain he would come early, but he didn’t. Sharyn’s mom came up and stayed with us for the month, so we got to do lots of things with her. And Papa stopped by occasionally too, so Edward got some last minute personal grandparent time in. We went to the Air museum at Paine Field for their Monster Bash halloween event. Edward, Daddy, and Papa all rode on the big Monster Jeep and had a blast even though it was pouring rain and the wind was whipping it all around. He seemed to have fun though.

Then after Morgan, was Halloween. We headed down into our old neighborhood for a trick-or-treat around Licton Springs and then headed down to a friends house for the regular trick-or-treat door to door with friends. Edward loved every minute of it. I asked him later if he like Halloween, and his reply was “I don’t like Halloween, but I love candy!”

Between October and November, we had all the grandparents visit. Grandma & Papa visited in October and early November. A few days after they left, Grandad and Grandma Peggy came for a visit, and then two weeks later, Grammy came for a visit. We were super busy and It was nice getting to see everyone in a short period of time.

Of course, we also had Thanksgiving and spent it with Grammy while she was visiting. Edward loves all the food we make.

We decided in January to go ahead and do another IUI cycle and use our last vial of sperm. We had our fingers crossed, but having had 2 failed IUI’s and a failed IUI to IVF under our belt, we weren’t sure what to expect. We knew we were doing the same medical cycle that we normally do. We kept this cycle around quiet from everyone as we have never had a surprise for anyone, so we thought we would try. It was super hard when I was struggling with all the hormones and the waiting game, but we did it!

We had the IUI on January 23rd with 3 good size follicles, 2 small follicles and 15 million sperm. 2 weeks later, this is what we have:

Our first couple ultrasounds of the baby:

12-13 weeks along and we made the announcement to our immediate family:

Then comes the halfway point with the anatomy scan where we hear that everything is great with the baby.

And of course, then the announcement to everyone else that we are expecting a baby:

24 weeks comes shortly after and all of a sudden, I am measuring 5 weeks ahead.

Then 30 weeks, still measuring ahead, so back in for another ultrasound to make sure baby is still fine and not to much fluid. We are on the upper end of fluid, but still in the ok range.

35/35 day! 35 weeks down and 35 days to go!

Then we hit 40 weeks and my brain went nuts because they were not expecting the baby to be late, if anything, the doctors didn’t think he would even be an October baby. So, at 3 days late, we headed back to the MFM for another ultrasound and an NST to make sure everything was going great. Because of course my brain was flipping out on not wanting to loose another baby. Everything was fine. They were estimating baby to be almost 11 pounds and told me that they would have sent me straight to induction if I was delivering in the hospital. My midwife was a bit more lax and just kept telling me I would be able to do it no matter what. It was what I needed to keep some of my self-assurance there as I prep for delivery of what I know now is going to be a HUGE baby!

Then, we hit 41 weeks. I was huge and uncomfortable as we went in for what we hoped was our final midwife appointment. We spent most of the week trying everything we could to put me into labor. And it succeeded. I took this photo about an hour before we headed off to the midwife appointment and then I was in full labor 2 hours after the appointment. Basically, I had the baby less than 9 hours after I took this photo and I took the photo not feeling like that baby was coming any time soon. And the meme was the thoughts that I was having the whole time.

And that is the pregnancy in a nutshell. I was super happy to have him and breathe again! You can read the birth story here.

For Edward’s First birthday, I decided to go with an “Up” themed party. I chose the theme for a few reasons: 1) what kid doesn’t like balloons? 2) We have felt the anguish Carl & Ellie felt 3) We did a whole lot of traveling during Edward’s first year.

I worked hard and got the invitations all put together. I used Edward’s fingerprints for the balloons and then the maps inside were maps of each place we went to over the year.

We got some family photos in a few days before the party

Lorna had come out the Friday before his party, so I had a lot of help while I finished up decorations and got the cakes ready.

We had so much fun. Not sure if I will be able to keep it up for all of his birthdays, but this one was special. 🙂

Edward decided that now that he can crawl to where he wants to, he is going to start helping me with the laundry.

Playtime: He loves playing with his toys. We are mainly playing with teethers right now as he is drooling and chewing on everything. He gets plenty of tummy time and has recently started to roll from tummy to back shortly after I put him down. Of course then he gets fussy and only wants to be picked up. He has found his feet and loves to play with them and stick his big toes in his mouth. It seems to only be his right foot for now. Occasionally he will get his left foot up there, but he definitely prefers his right foot. He likes to bang on things and will go for our computer keyboards if we are close enough. We recently pulled out my keyboard and let him play with it. It is one of the first things he likes to do in the morning and after a bath. The other things he enjoys doing throughout the day is mirror time and visiting Daddy.

Sleep: We finally reached sleeping through the night! We had the sleep regression for about 4 weeks and he was in his co-sleeper. We slowly worked on the transfer to the crib. We would put him down in his crib in his room and move him to the co-sleeper in our room when we went to bed. For a few nights, that was when he was waking up anyways. Then we were moving him asleep and he would wake up shortly after the move. So we decided to just let him sleep and only move him if he woke up. A few days later, he was sleeping through the night. He has been doing it for about 2 weeks now and it is very nice. We put him down between 6:30-8 (depending on his cues) and he wakes up once about an hour after we put him down to eat one last time and then doesn’t wake up until 8-8:30am. He might wake up and fuss around but he puts himself back to sleep so I don’t actually wake up. There have been a couple nights recently where he wakes up around 5:30am to eat and goes back to sleep until around 9 but they aren’t regular. He has also mastered the roll to his side since he prefers to sleep on his side. I lay him on his back and by the time I get downstairs and the monitor on, he is on his side.

Food: Edward decided he was ready for solids earlier than we thought we would give them to him. He was only eating every 2-3 hours and then he started working his way back so I was feeding him every hour. I was starting to get exhausted during the day so we started solids and he has worked back out to every 2-3 hours. We started with mashed up avocados and then have slowly moved on to other foods. So far, he has had avocado, banana, oatmeal, and applesauce. His favorite right now is banana. He doesn’t like the texture of oatmeal so we are still trying it and he likes applesauce but is not a fan of the tartness. We will probably wait a week or so before starting another food (either sweet potatoes or green beans are next on the list). Right now we only feed him once a day but I think he is starting to want it twice a day.

Teething: He is still really drooly and fussy occasionally. I saw a tooth for a few days but it went away again. He is starting to get a nice bite and his gums feel sharp so it hurts when he gnaws on our hands.

Clothes: He has slowed down his quick growth (yeah!) so he is still in his 6-9 month clothes. We still have some 3-6 and 6 month items out but it is only a couple. Most of what he wears are 9 month outfits. Maybe he will stay in them for a couple more months. 🙂

Diapers: We have undid the last vertical snap so they won’t get any longer. He is starting to be between horizontal snaps so we might have to come out another snap on that soon. It really depends on the diaper though. We have been having compression leaks so we have to make sure to change him every 1.5-2 hours otherwise he needs a whole outfit change. I need to do a strip clean of them and it might help with stuff but I haven’t had a chance yet. Soon though.
