Schlitterbahn

We got a phone call requesting that we come spend a weekend at one of our resorts for our annual owners survey. We decided to go ahead and go to Schlitterbahn waterpark since we were going to be within half an hour from it. It has been something we were interested in doing since the first summer we moved out here and we saw commercials for it. So we invited some friends (only one was able to make it) and we headed out for a day of fun. The place was great and even though it was crowded, most of the lines weren’t that bad.

Because we hadn’t been there before, we went in the wrong entrance and then spent a good chunk of time walking all the way around the park to find the lockers for our towels and what not. We found the lockers and then headed to the bar to grab a drink before going to wait in line for one of the bigger rides, Master Blaster. Master Blaster is one of the rides that shoots occupants uphill. The ride was fun, but the wait was not. We were so glad that we had gotten the drink beforehand as we were in line for about 2.5 hours. They did sell water and beer at the top right before getting on the ride(at about the 30 minute wait mark), but it was a long wait until we got there.

The new side of the park was closed loop rides with treated water. We spent about half the day there and half the day on the original side. The original side uses non-treated water pulled from the nearby Comal River. It was really nice since the water was cooler and at the end of most rides, you were dropped into the river. Some rides you were able to float down the river for a little while before the end of the ride. We personally enjoyed that side more. There were a couple of fun rides on the new side, but we enjoyed the slow/fast mix of the original side rides.

So we had fun and it was worth the price once we figured things out. Neither of us got really sunburnt. The food in the park was actually decent. The drinks were ok. I’m not sure exactly what I think of a strawberry daiquiri made with wine instead of rum. It tasted good though. We might end up going back at some point if we are still here next year, but at least we can mark off one item from our list. We have a few more and haven’t decided when we will go ahead and mark those off. Knowing that we are coming up soon on our exit from Texas makes us realize that we need to do some of these things while we live here instead of traveling back here. We shall see. 🙂

We did an elongated trip to California that began shortly before Kendra’s Wedding and ended a week after. We had a lot of fun and got to see all sorts of friends. We cannot wait until we are back on the west coast and able to spend more time with friends and family. Hopefully we will be back within the next 12 months. *Fingers crossed*

When we were getting ready to pack, we pulled out our big bag and the cats both know that it means we are leaving, so they took turns on making it hard for us to pack.

After we flew in, we stayed at Ryca and Jon’s house in Belmont. We had a blast hanging out and we really enjoyed their view of the SF area. 🙂

After we hung out with Ryca and Jon, we drove up to Boonville for Kendra’s Wedding.

We spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Boonville with family. After Boonville, we headed north to Humboldt. It was the first time in 26 months that we had been there. We both didn’t realize how much we actually missed it until we went back.

We had a dinner at Six River’s Brewery in McKinleyville on Monday night with a bunch of friends. We did the dinner because we weren’t sure where exactly we were going to be on the fourth of July.

Tuesday was spent doing nothing except for wandering around. We went up to Trinidad with Lorna and Steve to have lunch at the Eatery. Then we walked the trail to College Cove and Elk Head. It was green and wonderful!

We decided late on Tuesday that we didn’t really want to get back into the car and do a lot of driving on the Fourth, so we stayed in Humboldt and we enjoyed the Crabs baseball game.

We then wandered around Kendra’s Neighborhood and Darrell and Steve played on the toys in the park.

We spent the night of the Fourth hanging out with Liam, Sigrid, and Kearney and setting off fireworks.

On the morning of July 5, we headed back down to San Francisco with a stop at the Solar Living Center in Hopland. We also stopped at the Marin Headlands to get a different view of the Golden Gate Bridge. (Also to waste some time as we were a little early for our dinner since there wasn’t any traffic through Santa Rosa like we expected).

We had dinner with a bunch of people from Darrell’s days in Santa Cruz. It was fun hanging out and seeing some people we didn’t think that we would get to see.

Then on Friday, July 6, we got onto the plane and said goodbye to California and spent some time dreaming about how it will be when we come back for good.

Overall, it was a great trip and it was much needed for us. We got to relax and spend some time with each other and recover from our grief. The grief is still there, but it is nowhere near as prevalent as it was before. We know we are loved and thought about among our friends and families.

Thank you so much to everyone who made our trip special. 🙂

We flew to California on June 27 and had a wonderful 9 days of vacation. The main reason for going was to attend Kendra’s Wedding in Boonville. It was nice to visit all sorts of family at the wedding. Darrell was honored to play the bagpipes for the beginning of the wedding. Here are some of the photos we got.

We got into Boonville in the afternoon on June 29 and hung out for the rehearsal dinner and everything.

Then came the Wedding on Saturday:

Overall we had a ton of fun and we very happy that we were able to make it to the wedding. Congrats to Kendra and Lee on their beautiful wedding celebration!

Hey Y’all!

Like I posted in the last post, we have been really, really busy these last few weeks. We have been so busy that I am going to split our month of May into two posts. I am going to make a separate post for the second half of the month and for the nursery that we have been working on. So here ya go…….

I went to Seattle the end of April for my cousin Joni’s wedding. It was great seeing all the family again and also getting to hang out with our niece. She is getting so big!!!! I didn’t take a lot of photos, but my sister Jenni did and said she would send hers to me. I don’t expect to get them until August when they come out for baby, but we shall see.

After I got back from Seattle, Darrell and I went to our local farmers Family Farm Day. We had a really nice day. It was a little bit on the hot side, but at least there was a small breeze that made it bearable. I drank a ton of water!!! We got to see the new goslings, the piglets, the new baby donkey, and all of the other animals they had. They definitely had a very baby friendly Spring! They had a little walk you could take through the tree area behind their house, and there was a mulberry tree with a bunch of fallen mulberries. The butterflies were just loving it! If you stood still long enough, they would land and you could get fairly decent photos of them. Darrell stood there for like 5 minutes trying for some photos. He got some good ones, but there were a lot of photos to go through. 🙂

Then, next on our list of busy, Darrell went to Orlando for a work conference.

After Orlando, he flew straight to California for the Annual Boonville Beerfestival that we do every year. I skipped it this year, but we hope to bring the whole family to it next year. He had a lot of fun and enjoyed hanging out with friends and his cousin Kirsten and her friends.

And, after all of that, we were only half way through our month of May. Yes we did actually have to work during this month, so it has definitely been crazy busy. More photos in the next post from the month of May.

Wowzers!

We have been extremely busy these last two weeks. We have planted the garden for this year, cleaned out the nursery, set up the office/guest room, Scottish Heritage Day at Abilene State Park, and giving Zedd some antibiotics for his feline acne.

For our garden this year, we are hoping things grow and produce like they should. I don’t know if we are being optimistic or not, but we planted a lot of things. We have: 2 zucchini, 4 cucumbers, 2 broccoli, 6 cauliflower, 4 green beans, 6 sweet banana peppers, 6 cubano peppers, 4 cherry tomatoes, 4 yellow pear tomatoes, 4 cherokee purple tomatoes, 2 cabbage, 4 basil bunches, 8 pea bunches, and a thyme bush. We also bought some catnip, but we haven’t planted that yet. We are hoping for a lot of veggies and the ability to share with neighbors and friends. 🙂

We have had a lot of really good weather, so we have all been spending a lot of time outside. I really like this time of year and the awesome weather we get. Glad we haven’t  gotten any of the nasty weather that areas around us have been getting.

We spent our Easter weekend moving the office to the front room so we have an empty room for the nursery. It was a lot of work, but we finally finished the moving part. We don’t quite have everything where we would like it in the new office/guest room, but we are working on it. I will put pictures up later after we get it finished. It might not be until June or so since we have a lot of things planned in the next couple weeks. But they will be up at some point.

Last weekend, Darrell had a gig with the Abilene Pipers at the Abilene State Park for Scottish Heritage Day. We had a lot of fun and it was a gorgeous day for it (even if a little windy :P)

I also realized that yesterday has been 2 years since we closed on the house! Boy does time fly when you actually have stuff to do 🙂

We can’t wait until August and are excited to meet our little Pixel. We still haven’t come up with names, but we still have a couple months. Everything has been looking good at the last couple appointments. I am currently measuring 2 weeks ahead, so who knows what the next few months will bring. We are about 23.5 weeks along with 16.5 to go. Here are some pictures we took in our backyard. The first two were taken on Friday, the last two were taken on Saturday (hence the two separate outfits).

Enjoy your spring!
