Darrell just recently had his Spring Break, so we took off the day after his final and headed down to Anderson Valley to see his family. His Dad, Stepmom, Sister and Brother-in-Law hadn’t seen Edward since he was 4 months old, so we figured it was about time to head down there again to visit. It was a nice vacation and we spent a lot of time just wandering around and seeing people while spending time as a family without the distraction of our regular routine.

Around Grandad and Grandma Peggy’s:

My Nemesis for the week – Wisteria. My allergies were just all over the place and of course, it was almost everywhere. Benedryl didn’t work completely so I was pretty tired most of the time. Hopefully next time I will remember that I need to take something a little bit stronger.

Edward’s favorite friend on the trip – Lexi the dog:

Edward got to see some chickens for the first time. He wanted to spend time with them. Grandad and Grandma Peggy took him to feed them and to gather the eggs every day. He finally wanted to hang out in the run with the chickens and tried to feed them the grass they had access to. It was pretty cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

Big River Beach – We thought it would be fun to take Edward to the actual oceanย (since we only take him to the sound up here) so he could play in the sand and we could watch the sunset together. However, Edward had other plans and only wanted to head to the water. It made for a very frustrating time since he pitched a fit whenever we tried to stop him from running straight into the water. But, even with the frustration, we got some cool photos and he seemed to have fun most of the time. After we got him back to the car and cleaned up, we went up to Mendocino and wandered around the town. It was the first time we were back in Mendocino since we got married – almost 6 years now.

PennyRoyal Farm Tour – We got to see the baby goats at the local Goat Cheese farm. It was a wonderful tour and Edward was able to get into the cages with the baby goats (and a lamb) who were about a week old. There were also some who were just born the morning we were there. Now all he talks about is baby goats and that they say “mey” (his pronunciation is pretty dang cute). He also picked some wildflowers from around the area.

Park fun – Low Gap park in Ukiah and Greenwaters Park in Oakridge, OR(a rest stop on the way home):

Pheasant Rock Property – A pit stop on our way home. Uncle Kenny was down at the property, so we decided to stop by and say “hi”. Edward loved that he was able to wander around without a whole bunch of supervision. He also found a couple toys to play with:

I knew we would be busy, but I didn’t expect to be this busy. I am going to do a few posts and combine some months.

July:

In July, we had our exchange student from Spain. It was a blast having her around. It kept us really busy, but was a lot of fun. We took the ferry over to Kingston and drove down to Bremerton to meet with my Uncle Paul for dinner on the first Saturday she was here. That Sunday, my cousin was in town and was having her little girl’s first birthday party, so we attended that. The next weekend we headed up to Vancouver and Sechelt to visit with some of Darrell’s relatives. The last weekend she was here, we drove down to Enumclaw for the Highland Games.

August:

The first weekend, we said good-bye to Leire and then the next afternoon, my dad showed up for a few days while waiting for a load. The next weekend, we headed over to Sandpoint since Darrell’s mom broke her heel and needed surgery. We went out to visit and help her pack a little bit of her stuff since she was getting ready to move back down to California. Darrell also volunteered as a judge for a Space Elevator competition.

September:

We had a fairly quiet beginning to September. We had Edwards doctors appointment and just spent time as a family. It was the beginning of the FTC season, so Darrell was busy helping them out. He also went for a hike with our neighbor to Blanco lake. It was a little bit more strenuous than both of them thought it would be, so they never made it all the way. At the end of September, we went down to Southern California and then drove out to Vegas for my sisters wedding. It was a lot of fun spending a week hanging out with family. Edward spent a good portion of his time in Vegas swimming in the pools. He absolutely loved the pools and didn’t want to get out. The last day of September was Darrell’s first day of class for his Master’s program at UW. This class is whopping his butt and we are glad that it is almost over. One quarter down, 8 more to go.

This last weekend, we headed on down to California for a wedding for some friends. We had a blast. Since it was Memorial Day weekend, we were able to participate in the Royal Kinetic Madness Band which plays for the Kinetic Sculpture Race in Arcata. We haven’t played with them since 2009 before we moved to Texas. We saw a lot of friends and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves the whole weekend. It was a long trip, but well worth it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Someone got into the Peaches I had put in a bag for Darrell and I for the trip. I moved some stuff to the car and came back into the house and he had both peaches and one was almost gone. Little stinker.

Darrell had a conference in Washington DC so we all went with him and saw the sights while he was busy. Luckily for me, my cousin lives nearby, so her and her little girl came into downtown and we hung out together for the week. It was a lot of fun.

Wednesday, we walked the National Mall and saw some of the Monuments.

Thursday, we went to the National Zoo and wandered around there for the day.

Friday, we just hung out in the Hotel room. We were going to go swimming, but it didn’t pan out. Saturday, Darrell and I went to the Air & Space Museum and then met up with Joni & Chris for dinner. We had Hard Rock Cafe for lunch before the museum and Edward LOVED their twisted Mac & Cheese. Hopefully he keeps up with this love of almost all foods. (He still turns away from some foods if they aren’t what he wants. IE: We are trying to give him a pouch of food and he wants pieces of ours, or we are trying to spoon feed him and he wants to eat on his own.)

IMG_5781IMG_5771

Darrell ended up taking a week off after the conference and we went up to Connecticut to visit with a bunch of Darrell’s family. Later in the week, we headed down to NYC and hung out for about 36 hours there. It was really cold, so we didn’t wander around too much, but we did go up the Empire State Building.

Edward enjoyed his plane rides and trip through the airport. We bought a little strap that allowed us to attach his carseat to a rolling carry-on and then we just wheeled him around the airport. He loved it and we really enjoyed having somewhere to put him down when we needed to. The plane rides he loved sitting and staring out the window. On our way back, he just wanted to stare out the window when we were landing and after parking at the gate. We had to practically tear him away from the window just to get off. We were the last ones off the plane because he was so entranced with what was going on outside.

We enjoyed our whole trip and were really glad that we did the trip. Some day we will go back and visit again. Hopefully it won’t be so cold, so we will be able to get out and see more of the sights.

Well.. I did it again. It took me almost 3 months to update this time. We have been really busy in the last 3 months though.

We did a weeklong trip to Abilene for Darrell’s work Christmas party in the first half of December. He was excited because he won an Xbox One at the party and he doesn’t usually win anything. I was excited because I was able to go and see everyone and introduce them to Edward. Which, he handled the whole traveling thing really well. No issues on the flights. He was either sleeping, looking out the window, or charming our neighboring passengers.

Then we came home for a little over a week and then flew down to San Diego for the Holidays to spend time with Sharyn’s family and some of Darrell’s family. We were there for 2 weeks and time just flew by. I did end up getting sick on New Years, but it was a quick 24 hour bug that laid me flat. I was fine the next day though. We wish we were able to see more family, but we took it easy this time and it was one of the first trips we have taken that was more like a relaxing vacation than anything else.

We made it home late on a Tuesday and Thursday was Edward’s Flu booster appointment, Friday was the FTC qualifying match, and Saturday was the Regional match for FTC. Unfortunately, Edward woke up sick on Saturday. I stayed home while Darrell went and his team actually made it to state (which is this Sunday 1/26). By Monday, I caught what Edward had, Wednesday: Darrell caught it, Thursday: Edward was better, Saturday: Darrell was better. I finally got over it two days ago. We are giving it a little bit of time before Edward and I head out and do things. It was just a cold (runny nose, sore throat, etc). We were just glad that there wasn’t a fever. So Edward handled his first cold like a boss. Hardly any fussing, just a cough and runny nose.

I am going to try to keep up with the updates, but we have a lot planned in the next two months: 1/31-2/2: Darrell’s friend in town, 2/7: Darrell’s Birthday and MAS concert, 2/7-2/10: Lorna visits, 2/18-3/1: East Coast trip (DC, New York, Connecticut). No idea yet on plans for March, but I know there will be something with the way we are going. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now that I am caught up, I am going to sign off and hopefully I will be back before April. ๐Ÿ™‚
