Before we left for California, our whole neighborhood let us know that it was springtime. All of the trees flowered and it was beautiful. At least until the winds and rain came and you had little pink flowers stuck all over your car. When we got back, all of those pretty flowers had turned into purple leaves and now the tree limbs are starting to show some green buds.

I can’t believe that Edward is almost 2 years old! These last few months have flown by and Edward is becoming more of a toddler every day. So a few updates:
– He is saying so many new words. Many times, he is just repeating exactly what we say, but he is starting to show that he understands what they mean.
– He has started counting to 5. He doesn’t understand what the numbers mean, just that he can do it.
– He can match family names to faces and (almost) correctly pronounce everyones names.
– He has regressed on potty training. He still tells us when he poops, but now he tells us after he poops and he also uses the word for when he pees or farts. We decided to just let it go for now and wait until he shows more readiness signs.
– He still eats almost anything. Occasionally he will be picky and decide what he wants to eat is not what I have on the table. He also knows what dum-dums, cookies, gummy bears and gummy beans (jelly beans) are. He knows where the cookies are and I have caught him pulling the cookie jar toward himself so he could get a cookie. One time I only caught him when the cookie was half gone already.
– He doesn’t mind getting his legs muddy while splashing in puddles, but as soon as he falls down and gets his hands dirty, he comes running to either Darrell or I to wipe his hands on our pants. I have tried a few different sensory activities, but he won’t have any of them. I even just tried a bubble bath and he wouldn’t get in the bath. 🙁
– We are working on “please” and “thank you”. Edward has the “please” down. His “thank you” needs a little work. He says “thank you please”. 🙂
– He has officially dropped all naps. I am a sad momma. We got to the point where I would try to put him down and he would fight it for over an hour and then only sleep for about half an hour. It wasn’t worth it anymore.
– He does still sleep for 12-14 hours at night still. We actually had a night where he went down around 7 (fell asleep at the table and didn’t wake up through the clean-up, diaper change, or placement in bed) and didn’t wake up until 9:30 the next morning. I didn’t know what to do with myself.
– He is starting to learn the sounds animals make.
There is probably a lot more, but since I am around it all the time, I can’t think of anything else. So, here are some pictures to finish this post off.
Darrell just recently had his Spring Break, so we took off the day after his final and headed down to Anderson Valley to see his family. His Dad, Stepmom, Sister and Brother-in-Law hadn’t seen Edward since he was 4 months old, so we figured it was about time to head down there again to visit. It was a nice vacation and we spent a lot of time just wandering around and seeing people while spending time as a family without the distraction of our regular routine.
Around Grandad and Grandma Peggy’s:
My Nemesis for the week – Wisteria. My allergies were just all over the place and of course, it was almost everywhere. Benedryl didn’t work completely so I was pretty tired most of the time. Hopefully next time I will remember that I need to take something a little bit stronger.
Edward’s favorite friend on the trip – Lexi the dog:
Edward got to see some chickens for the first time. He wanted to spend time with them. Grandad and Grandma Peggy took him to feed them and to gather the eggs every day. He finally wanted to hang out in the run with the chickens and tried to feed them the grass they had access to. It was pretty cute. 🙂
Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve:
Views of the Valley: On the left is the view from the road on the way to Montgomery Woods from Ukiah. On the right is the view from over my Sister- and Brother-in-Law’s yurt in the valley.
Big River Beach – We thought it would be fun to take Edward to the actual ocean (since we only take him to the sound up here) so he could play in the sand and we could watch the sunset together. However, Edward had other plans and only wanted to head to the water. It made for a very frustrating time since he pitched a fit whenever we tried to stop him from running straight into the water. But, even with the frustration, we got some cool photos and he seemed to have fun most of the time. After we got him back to the car and cleaned up, we went up to Mendocino and wandered around the town. It was the first time we were back in Mendocino since we got married – almost 6 years now.
PennyRoyal Farm Tour – We got to see the baby goats at the local Goat Cheese farm. It was a wonderful tour and Edward was able to get into the cages with the baby goats (and a lamb) who were about a week old. There were also some who were just born the morning we were there. Now all he talks about is baby goats and that they say “mey” (his pronunciation is pretty dang cute). He also picked some wildflowers from around the area.
Park fun – Low Gap park in Ukiah and Greenwaters Park in Oakridge, OR(a rest stop on the way home):
Pheasant Rock Property – A pit stop on our way home. Uncle Kenny was down at the property, so we decided to stop by and say “hi”. Edward loved that he was able to wander around without a whole bunch of supervision. He also found a couple toys to play with:
We have been really busy lately. We are still doing the hikes with my Mom’s group. I am also doing some walks. So here are some pictures from around town:
Mukilteo Riverfront:
Langus Riverfront Park:
Lord Hill Regional Park – It was the day after a rainstorm, and Edward was just in love with the puddles and was super muddy by the time we got back to the car, but he walked almost the whole way by himself.
Big Finn Hill Park – We did a short trail and then we played around on the playground for awhile. Edward had a blast and enjoyed playing with his friend:
