Santa 2014

Edward has his first visit with Santa this year! Last year we didn’t really do very much Christmas stuff since we spent a good portion of the month down in Southern California. This year, we went through the Lynnwood mall back at the beginning of November, and Darrell saw the Santa that was there for photos. He mentioned that it would be great to get a photo, so last week, we got Edward dressed up and took him down to see Santa. He is a little shy around strangers and doesn’t smile unless someone he knows is taking the photo (all of our photos show this), so Edward isn’t smiling, but we got a family photo.

18 Months

This little cheese ball is 18 months now! Time sure flies! At his 18 month appointment, he was 30#3oz and 34.5″ tall. Doc says that he is doing great.

Playtime: Still loves the balls, balloons, necklaces and glasses. His new obsession is the toy trucks and cars we have for him. He has actually been pulling those out first in the morning. He has gotten better and helps me pick up all of his toys at night. He does about 33% of them before starting to want to pull them out again, so then I just finish up. He still loves to have books read to him.

Sleep:  Sleep went haywire this month. He cut all 4 of his canine teeth, so he wasn’t sleeping very well. He would wake up between 3-5am and then take an hour to go back to sleep. It took us a week to figure out what was up. We ended up putting a nightlight in his room so he didn’t wake up to pitch black. That didn’t work. Then we ultimately ended up transitioning him to the toddler bed. Now when he wakes up, he just gets up and comes into our room and our bed. For a couple nights, he was joining us around 5-6am. Now he doesn’t come in until around 8:30. He doesn’t always stay in his bed and usually ends up on the spare twin bed we have in there, but he does stay in his room.

Food:  Still slightly picky, but will eat if we spoonfeed him. He has started to figure out how to use the fork and spoon, so he isn’t getting quite as messy as he was before. He hates to be cleaned up afterwards, but hopefully that is just a phase.

Teething:  He has cut all 4 canines. All that is left is his 2-year molars. He had his first dentist appointment this month. He front two teeth are a little tight, but other than that, he is good. He LOVES to brush his teeth. He gets out of the bath at night and runs straight to our bathroom so he can brush his teeth.

Clothes: 24 month and 2T. The 2T pants need to be rolled up a little bit, but they fit at the waist.

Movement: He runs around the house, climbs up whatever he can, attempts to jump on the floor.  He succeeds in jumping on the bed (thanks daddy).

Potty Training: Edward is starting to show an interest in the potty. We bought him a small one and he enjoys sitting on it while Mommy or Daddy are going potty. He has a tell when he goes poop, so we are trying to catch him to help with that. So far, we have had three successful catches before pooping in the diaper.

November

We had a very quiet November. Something big in the beginning and the end. At the beginning of the month, Grandma Lorna and Great Grandma Natalie came out to visit for a few days. We took them down to Kerry Park to look at the view of Downtown Seattle.

And then, we got a lovely little snowstorm to end the month and kickoff the start of the Christmas holiday season. Edward loved the snow and didn’t want to come back inside. The snow stuck around for 5 days before finally melting when it warmed up and also rained.

My two favorite guys!

17 months

Playtime: Balls and balloons are his favorite toys to play with. Those and the bead necklaces we got from Vegas for Aunt Carole and Uncle Sean’s wedding. First thing he does is come downstairs, put on the necklaces and the glasses that he got and then he pulls all of his balls and balloons down. We are starting to work on putting the toys away at the end of the day, but he likes to put them in the box and immediately pull them right back out. He loves to get a book at a time and have you read to him while he sits on your lap. We will probably read the same book 10 times before he gets another one for 10 times.

Sleep:  Still sleeping about 12 hours at night and then a good 2 hours in the afternoon.

Food: He has definitely been showing us that he is a toddler. There are days where he eats anything we put in front of him and then days where he won’t touch anything.

Teething: He has cut all of his teeth with the exception of the canines and the 2 year molars.

Clothes: He is mostly in 24 months and 2T clothing. There are a few 18 month clothes that still fit him, but not many.

Movement: He is starting to do a half run now. He can go up and down the stairs by himself.

Before Halloween, we went over to the Craven Farms Pumpkin Patch. We had a lot of fun and Edward seemed to enjoy it as well. It probably would have been better if we had gone before the wind/rain storm that happened the night before. We did the corn maze, pumpkin patch, and ate a bunch of Kettle Corn. We will probably go back next year and time it when it isn’t so wet and muddy.
