Since we were so busy, I forgot to fill out the usual form for these months for Edward. So, here is an overview recap: He started walking about a week after his 13 months. He is started saying a few words around 15 months. His first word was “wobot” (robot). Since then, he has added “dat”, “wow”, “bagpipes”, and “pop pop”(not sure if it is popcorn, popping balloons, or bubbles). He also LOVES to sit at the counter and watch us cook and clean.

I knew we would be busy, but I didn’t expect to be this busy. I am going to do a few posts and combine some months.

July:

In July, we had our exchange student from Spain. It was a blast having her around. It kept us really busy, but was a lot of fun. We took the ferry over to Kingston and drove down to Bremerton to meet with my Uncle Paul for dinner on the first Saturday she was here. That Sunday, my cousin was in town and was having her little girl’s first birthday party, so we attended that. The next weekend we headed up to Vancouver and Sechelt to visit with some of Darrell’s relatives. The last weekend she was here, we drove down to Enumclaw for the Highland Games.

August:

The first weekend, we said good-bye to Leire and then the next afternoon, my dad showed up for a few days while waiting for a load. The next weekend, we headed over to Sandpoint since Darrell’s mom broke her heel and needed surgery. We went out to visit and help her pack a little bit of her stuff since she was getting ready to move back down to California. Darrell also volunteered as a judge for a Space Elevator competition.

September:

We had a fairly quiet beginning to September. We had Edwards doctors appointment and just spent time as a family. It was the beginning of the FTC season, so Darrell was busy helping them out. He also went for a hike with our neighbor to Blanco lake. It was a little bit more strenuous than both of them thought it would be, so they never made it all the way. At the end of September, we went down to Southern California and then drove out to Vegas for my sisters wedding. It was a lot of fun spending a week hanging out with family. Edward spent a good portion of his time in Vegas swimming in the pools. He absolutely loved the pools and didn’t want to get out. The last day of September was Darrell’s first day of class for his Master’s program at UW. This class is whopping his butt and we are glad that it is almost over. One quarter down, 8 more to go.

Busy Month ahead

Now that I have finally caught up again, I will immediately fall behind. 🙂 Our month of July is pretty booked and I might not have a chance to update this until late August. We are going to be hosting an exchange student from Spain for the next 3.5 weeks. So we will be busy with group activities, we are planning a trip to Vancouver, BC to visit family there, there is another Highland Games that Darrell will be a part of and we will be camping there from Friday to Sunday, and we have a lot of birthday parties. Our exchange student will be 16 shortly after she gets here, my cousin’s little one is having an early birthday bash while they are out here visiting, and a few of my mom’s group kiddos are having their birthdays. Plus we still have the normal stuff of Robots and different mom’s group activities. So, we are prepared for a busy July and possibly a busy beginning of August. I will try to get on to update more, but I seem to mostly do it when I download photos. Enjoy the posts from the last few months!

Playtime: We have a little destructor on our hands! By nap time, his toys are all over the house. If we are working in the garage, he will throw the toys over the baby gate into the garage. It has been pretty warm, so we have been spending a lot of time outside in the pool. We have also found a friend in a neighbor, so we go over and draw with chalk, or play with the pinwheels in their yard. All sorts of fun stuff.

Sleep: Sleep routine is still the same. Down around 8pm and up between 8-9am with a nap around 12:30 for about 2 hours. I have been trying to aim for him to be up for no more than 12 hours. Which means that if he wakes up early at 7:30, I put him down by 7:30 that night. If he wakes up late around 10am, I try to get him to bed by 9 so he will get a good sleep. We have noticed that when he doesn’t sleep well, he gets really cranky and it is harder to get him down for a nap. But overall, we have slid nicely into a routine. He is ok with occasionally changing up the routine when we need to be out late or up early though.

Food: It is watermelon season! Edward LOVES watermelon. If we have it in a container where he can see it, he won’t eat anything else. He has begun to only eat blueberries when they are mixed into something. He won’t just eat them fresh anymore.  Other than that, he still eats a bunch and almost everything we eat.

Teething: The outer front bottom two are working their way in now. He won’t let us brush his teeth anymore and would much rather suck on the toothbrush and crawl around the house. He is still chewing on everything and recently got into the habit of gagging himself. He shoves his whole hand in his mouth and will gag and continue to do that until he spits up. Hopefully it is just a phase and will finish quickly.

Clothes: We were just talking about how we need to pack up his 12-month clothes and move him into 18 month clothes. Sad that we only got to put some of the outfits on once if at all.

Movement: We officially got some first steps on June 16th! At first, he would only walk if we let go while he was close enough to something he could take a few steps, but far enough he couldn’t just grab it. Slowly he let go more and more. He is finally starting to walk on his own if he is holding something in his hands. It isn’t all the time, but we will be there soon. Oh.. and this boy is a climber! He comes over to the couch, grabs our hands and wants up. Then he moves all around the couch, climbs down and then does a repeat. Energy galore!

Since Darrell joined a piping group last year, we have been heading to a lot of different bagpipe events. Summer is the kickoff for the Highland Games. There are probably Highland games every weekend, though his group isn’t going to attend each and every one. Tacoma was their first one. They have gotten a little small and are trying to get some recruiting done at them. Here are some photos from the day. It was a very soggy day. 🙂

We bought Edward a little foam sword and he loves it!

They let Darrell join in on the Massed Band. It was his first time and he was really excited and nervous about it. Can you spot him?
