Fun at the Park

We have had a few really nice days over this last month and we spent a good amount of time at the park across the street. Edward loves to play on the swings and people watch. Once he is a little more mobile, he will probably be all over the place. Right now, he isn’t a huge fan of how the grass feels on his hands when he is crawling, so he stays on the blanket most of the time if we aren’t walking him around.

IMG_6242  We are ready for the summer and many more days out in the sun running around.

We headed over to Redmond for a Swerve Robotics Open House last Sunday. Darrell brought the Ingraham FTC robot and we hung out for the afternoon. Edward played with the Robot for a little bit before the public started showing up.

Pixel’s Urn

It took us about 22 months, but we finally found an urn we loved. We got it and thought it would be big enough for Pixel, but unfortunately, it wasn’t. The crematorium we went to said that the Funeral home in Texas most likely cremated Pixel and his placenta in a little cardboard casket so that there were plenty of ashes. That means that while we thought a little urn would be big enough, it only actually fit about 1/3 of Pixel’s ashes in it. Darrell and I discussed it though and we are ok with having to split him up. We haven’t decided what we will do with the other 2/3rds, but we are happy with this for now.

10 Months

IMG_6204

Playtime: Playtime is now whatever Mommy and Daddy are doing. He loves to pull apart his mat and leave a trail of toys all over the living area. He also LOVES to climb the stairs. Especially when there is a cat up top. He gets a little squeal as he starts climbing.

Sleep: Going to bed has been relatively easy. We have a bedtime routine where we finish dinner, run his bath, let him play, then put him to sleep. He even pulls the plug on the bath when he is ready to get out, so he sets his bedtime. He has pushed his bedtime back to around 8pm, but that is ok. Sometimes he goes down a little earlier and sometimes later. During the day, he has begun to follow the 2-3-4 schedule where he is up for 2 hours, nap, up for 3 hours, nap, up for 4 hours, then bed. Some days he only does one nap though. His morning nap is my only reliable nap. Afternoon is really a crapshoot. For about two weeks towards the beginning of the month, he dropped down to only one nap a day. Those days were rough because he would get really fussy, but refuse to sleep. He still occasionally prefers only one nap, but he doesn’t get too fussy when he only does one.

Food: Eating anything and everything we give him. Still prefers to feed himself so very few purees now. He is also starting to want the silverware. Doesn’t quite understand it, but always wants to hold it and puts the handle in his mouth. He will get there though. 🙂

Teething: At the end of March, he finally broke through a top tooth. His upper left one came in. The upper right looks like it will join it soon though. The nights when the teeth come in are horrible. He wakes up multiple times and it takes us an hour or more to get him to sleep and then he only sleeps for an hour before we do it again.

Clothes: Still has a few 9-month outfits that fit so we are using mainly those. He doesn’t really fit in the 9-month pants though, so those are usually 12-month. PJ wise, we put him in 12-18 month outfits since they aren’t tight on him.

Movement: Crawler Extraordinaire! He is all over the place. He pulls himself up on things, cruises around, gets down, and then crawls somewhere else. Darrell and I are pretty sure he will start walking in the next 2 months. We will see though. He can walk while we are only holding one of his hands, but prefers to hold onto both. So very close.

Darrell had a conference in Washington DC so we all went with him and saw the sights while he was busy. Luckily for me, my cousin lives nearby, so her and her little girl came into downtown and we hung out together for the week. It was a lot of fun.

Wednesday, we walked the National Mall and saw some of the Monuments.

IMG_7210 Just look at those little teeth!

Friday, we just hung out in the Hotel room. We were going to go swimming, but it didn’t pan out. Saturday, Darrell and I went to the Air & Space Museum and then met up with Joni & Chris for dinner. We had Hard Rock Cafe for lunch before the museum and Edward LOVED their twisted Mac & Cheese. Hopefully he keeps up with this love of almost all foods. (He still turns away from some foods if they aren’t what he wants. IE: We are trying to give him a pouch of food and he wants pieces of ours, or we are trying to spoon feed him and he wants to eat on his own.)

Darrell ended up taking a week off after the conference and we went up to Connecticut to visit with a bunch of Darrell’s family. Later in the week, we headed down to NYC and hung out for about 36 hours there. It was really cold, so we didn’t wander around too much, but we did go up the Empire State Building.

Edward enjoyed his plane rides and trip through the airport. We bought a little strap that allowed us to attach his carseat to a rolling carry-on and then we just wheeled him around the airport. He loved it and we really enjoyed having somewhere to put him down when we needed to. The plane rides he loved sitting and staring out the window. On our way back, he just wanted to stare out the window when we were landing and after parking at the gate. We had to practically tear him away from the window just to get off. We were the last ones off the plane because he was so entranced with what was going on outside.

We enjoyed our whole trip and were really glad that we did the trip. Some day we will go back and visit again. Hopefully it won’t be so cold, so we will be able to get out and see more of the sights.
