Edward decided that now that he can crawl to where he wants to, he is going to start helping me with the laundry.

9-month stats: Height – 30″ (>98%) Weight – 21#8oz (80%) Head Circumference – 47.5cm (98%)
Playtime: Playtime is all over the place! All he wants to do is move and play with different things. While on our trip to the East Coast, he learned that it is pretty cool to play drums on kitchen items. So now he is constantly pounding on things. He is still in love with his wooden Train and is always looking for his two favorite pieces from it.
Sleep: Bedtime is definitely better. He goes down pretty easy most of the time (there are still the rough nights and those are getting worse). When we are home and he is in his own crib, he will sleep about 12 hours straight. When we are traveling and he is sharing a bed with just me, he only sleeps about 8 hours straight. When he is sharing a bed with both me and Darrell, he will be up every 3-4 hours all night long. Luckily, he transitions back to the full 12 hours when we get him back in his crib. Getting him in his crib is rough after a vacation, but it doesn’t take to long. Naps are all over the place. His morning nap is great – two hours after he gets up, he quietly and calmly goes down for a 90 minute nap. Afternoon nap – not so much. Sometimes he goes down 2 hours after his last one, sometimes 3 hours, sometimes 4 hours. It is another 90 minute nap, but it is just all over the place as to when he goes down. It doesn’t make him any grumpier (except when I try to put him down and he doesn’t want it) so I am trying to just roll with it. He has dropped the third daytime nap. The best part of his naps is he is ok with taking them pretty much anywhere so I am not constricted to the house when naptime rolls around. He does sleep longer at home, but he will still nap while out and about.
Food: Edward is starting to show his pickiness. He will only eat fruit purees but prefers to have just cut up food. He has dismissed many pouches of food if we give them to him when we are all eating. He wants what we have, so it makes meal times a little more difficult for me since I have to make sure to make something he can have. He also eats almost non-stop. Very rarely have we seen him actually stop eating. We have given him two pouches, 1/3 of a rice cake and many cheerios and he still wants more even after nursing a full meal. He is definitely a snacker.
Teething: The bottom two teeth are now very visible every time he smiles. He is starting to run a small fever again today, so there is a chance that a few more are going to make their appearance in the next few days.
Clothes: We still put him in most of the same clothes as we were last month. We noticed that the 9-month clothes have definitely gotten their use since he has been in them since he was 5 months old. We are also putting him in some of the clothes from 12-24 months. The brands are all different, but he is slowly working his way into all of the 12-month clothes. The 18-month pants are only a little bit long for him, so we have to roll them every now and then, and he only fits into the Gerber 24-month onesies, but we just rotate through the clothes we have.
Movement: Crawling! He finally figured it out on Feb 22. I put him on the floor and was sitting at a desk at the hotel room and he crawled over and up my leg. The first few days were a little slow, but he is getting the hang of it. He also figured out how to climb up stairs while we were holding his hands thanks to his Aunt Ann. Then because he is so dang smart, a few days later, he figured out how to crawl up them on his own. We now have baby gates in use at our house. 🙂 He is also pulling himself up to standing a lot and has figured out how to cruise across furniture. Hasn’t yet figured out how to take a corner, but will probably figure that out soon.
*As you can tell, he would rather move than take a picture with his lion. I tried twice about 15 minutes each time and these were the best shots I got. Next month will be fun if he is really moving!*
Playtime: Still loving playing with his blocks. He is starting to get into the clapping stage and learned how, so now he claps a lot. It is great because he starts to clap when he wants our attention or while Darrell is playing his bagpipe chanter. We have moved most of his toys into our ottoman and it is full of stuffed animal like items. He is constantly digging through it and making a mess. It is awesome! (For now while it is still mostly contained on his playmat).
Sleep: We have started work on reverting his schedule. It took a few weeks, but we finally have him back to going to sleep between 7-8pm and not waking up until 8:30-9am. It is still rough putting him to sleep at night since he just screams and squirms in full on tantrum style. We have tried no later than 2 hours after his last nap, 3 hours after and sometimes even 4 hours after. Nothing works. There is the occasional night where he goes down without a fuss, but it is very rare. I don’t understand why bedtime is so bad. Every single nap is easy. He nurses, I rock him, put him down awake, he lays there for about 5 minutes and then is out for an hour. I wish bedtime was that easy. He has been waking up once in the middle of the night (usually around 6am) but that has been for teething.
Food: We have started to just give him what we eat. I make sure it is small enough for him and he just shoves it in his mouth. We did stop making our own puree’s and we buy the pouches for when we are out or if what we are having for dinner isn’t very baby friendly. Since we switched to doing that, he hasn’t really turned anything down. I think he just loves to feed himself. I do have to say that we stopped doing the 3 day wait between foods. It might bite us later, but right now it is what works for us.
Teething: There was a lot of teething all month. His gums got sharp and we were hoping that one was going to cut through soon. Wouldn’t you know it… 5 days before he hit 8 months, the front bottom two cut through at the same time. They are still working their way up, so it is really hard to see them since Edward won’t let us look. They are starting to become more visible from just a smile, but you really have to look. I’m giving it another couple of weeks before they are in charge. 🙂
Clothes: Still in those 9-month clothes (depending on the brand) and some brands of the 12-month are getting small on him. I went through the clothes we had and pulled out all of his 18-month up to 2T clothes. I know we won’t need the bigger ones for awhile, but I needed to use the space for all the other clothes since we have kept a lot of what we had because we are planning for another one in the future.
Movement: Still wants to stand all the time. Shortly after he turned 7-months, he took his first steps while we were holding his hands. Now all he wants to do is walk around. It is starting to hurt my back from holding him and helping him all the time, so I spend nights just relaxing and recovering. Still no crawling. He gets up to his hands, one foot and a knee a lot and can kind of scooch himself around. Hasn’t left the playmat area yet, so we are still good on the baby gate front.
Well.. I did it again. It took me almost 3 months to update this time. We have been really busy in the last 3 months though.
We did a weeklong trip to Abilene for Darrell’s work Christmas party in the first half of December. He was excited because he won an Xbox One at the party and he doesn’t usually win anything. I was excited because I was able to go and see everyone and introduce them to Edward. Which, he handled the whole traveling thing really well. No issues on the flights. He was either sleeping, looking out the window, or charming our neighboring passengers.
Then we came home for a little over a week and then flew down to San Diego for the Holidays to spend time with Sharyn’s family and some of Darrell’s family. We were there for 2 weeks and time just flew by. I did end up getting sick on New Years, but it was a quick 24 hour bug that laid me flat. I was fine the next day though. We wish we were able to see more family, but we took it easy this time and it was one of the first trips we have taken that was more like a relaxing vacation than anything else.
We made it home late on a Tuesday and Thursday was Edward’s Flu booster appointment, Friday was the FTC qualifying match, and Saturday was the Regional match for FTC. Unfortunately, Edward woke up sick on Saturday. I stayed home while Darrell went and his team actually made it to state (which is this Sunday 1/26). By Monday, I caught what Edward had, Wednesday: Darrell caught it, Thursday: Edward was better, Saturday: Darrell was better. I finally got over it two days ago. We are giving it a little bit of time before Edward and I head out and do things. It was just a cold (runny nose, sore throat, etc). We were just glad that there wasn’t a fever. So Edward handled his first cold like a boss. Hardly any fussing, just a cough and runny nose.
I am going to try to keep up with the updates, but we have a lot planned in the next two months: 1/31-2/2: Darrell’s friend in town, 2/7: Darrell’s Birthday and MAS concert, 2/7-2/10: Lorna visits, 2/18-3/1: East Coast trip (DC, New York, Connecticut). No idea yet on plans for March, but I know there will be something with the way we are going. 🙂
Now that I am caught up, I am going to sign off and hopefully I will be back before April. 🙂
Playtime: Still playing with the normal items. Edward got a lot of wooden toys for christmas, so he is starting to enjoy playing with those. We also got quite a few books so reading will definitely be on our schedule once we get back home.
Sleep: We still haven’t gotten out of the 6 month regression. He won’t go to bed before midnight but now he then sleeps until 11:30-noon. We decided to not push to revert back to his old schedule yet since we did a lot of traveling this month and he is still a happy baby. Once we get back though, we will be starting to push for the old schedule of him going down between 7-9pm. He is down to one nap a day now. It is usually around a 2-2.5 hour nap. When he is in his own crib, he will sleep straight through the night, but with all of the traveling, he is more comfortable in bed with Darrell and I so we keep waking each other up all night. We are waking up anywhere from 3-6 times a night. I am ready for him to be back in his own bed.
Food: His solid foods have gone all over the place! Since we have been traveling and not able to puree things, we have been handing him things off our plates and he is enjoying feeding himself. We realized with the green beans that they were just to cold, so we really have to try to get a right temperature otherwise he doesn’t want anything to do with the food. We also started on giving him some meats and eggs. I didn’t do so well at the homemade meat puree, so we just bought some from the store. We occasionally just give him a little slice of meat for him to chew on.
Teething: Same old, same old. No teeth, but the drool is getting serious! It now goes down his chin and all the way down his outfits. Very tempted to go ahead and put some bibs on him all day, but he isn’t very fond of them.
Clothes: He is still in his 9-month clothes. They are snug, but they aren’t small. He fits nicely in 12-month and even in some 18 month. We are going through his closet again this weekend to pack up the old and bring in the new. Fun, fun!
Movement: Early in the month he figured out how to pull himself up to a standing position, so now that is all that he wants to do. He cannot sit up from lying down, but if you sit him up, he will pull all the way to standing. We really think he is going to skip the crawling first. Just before the new year, he took a couple steps while standing, so it is coming. Not sure if I am ready for that yet, but it won’t slow down. 🙂
