We drove over to Idaho to attend one of Darrell’s cousin’s wedding. When we were over there in July, Darrell offered to play bagpipes for them if they wanted and they said yes. He spent most of the summer practicing and was excited for it. Just before we left here to go over there, we found out that one of his uncles was going to get married there the night before. We stopped in Pullman to visit some of our Humboldt friends who just recently moved there. Overall, it was a fun, quick weekend and we enjoyed visiting the family again.

One year ago today, we sat in a little room waiting for the doctor. The nurse came in and we confirmed that the vial they were giving us was indeed our donor. Everything we wanted and hoped for laid in that vial. It was the last vial from the donor we had: the last chance of a brother or sister for Pixel: our last shot at trying for at least a year while we saved up money.

Everything looked good going into that room. The medications had worked like they were suppose to, I had three beautiful follicles and an amazing lining. The exact same scenario that we got pregnant with Pixel and Bit 10 months ago.

We were excited. The doctor came in, did the procedure and wished us luck as he walked out of the room. We sat for another 10 minutes and then I got up off the bed and got dressed. The nurses wished us luck as we left and gave me a form for a blood test in two weeks. I knew it would be a long two weeks waiting to see if it worked.

It ended up being a very long 9 months, but Edward is finally here and we are so happy. We are thankful for the science that allows us to get pregnant and the doctors and nurses who were there every step of the way and helped relieve any anxiety they could.

Athabasca

We headed towards Athabasca Canada on Thursday morning (Aug 8) so we could attend one of Darrell’s college friends wedding celebration. They had eloped last year and were celebrating twice this year. Once in California (where they live and where the bride if from) and once in Canada (where the groom is from). We knew more people at the California celebration, but Edward wasn’t even a month old and we weren’t ready for a trip like that yet so we decided to go to the Canada one.

It was quite a drive up there and took two days. We stopped at a lot of little cities along the way for feeding and letting Edward play. Thursday night was rough as we were hoping to make it all the way to Jasper, but we only made it to Blue River before Edward had a breakdown. He did so well until then but we had been in/out of a car for 12.5 hours already and we were hoping to make it another two. We tried to get a hotel in Blue River, but they were sold out, so we ended up driving to Valemount for a hotel which was another hour. Poor Edward ended up crying himself to sleep as when we got him out, there was no consoling him. The boob, rocking, clean diaper, toys, nothing was doing it. 🙁 I felt like a bad mommy. We found out the reason the hotels were sold out was because there happened to be a big festival in town that weekend, so we got one of the last rooms available in Valemount.

Luckily, Edward woke up his bright cheerful self in the morning and was ok in the car. We made sure to stop for an hour at a time to feed him, change him, and let him play/stretch before getting back on the road. We made it to Athabasca and stayed at the Groom’s family cabin with them. We had a lot of fun and everyone we met were really nice.

The wedding celebration was also during the Groom’s family reunion, so there were a lot of people. It was a blast! I did end up stuck in one general area because of Edward, but I made sure it was by the bar where most of the other people I had met the night before were hanging out at.

The trip home was pretty uneventful. We saw a Black bear walking along the highway, Edward slept most of the time in the car and woke up when we were close to where we were going to stop to feed him. The only small hitch was that when we were going through Jasper National Park, there was construction and we were stopped for almost half an hour. Edward started to wake up and get fussy right before they let us through. If we had sat for any longer, we would have needed to pull to the side to get him out of the car.

Overall it was a fun trip. Darrell wants to go back up to Jasper National Park to just spend some time as it was a beautiful park. We also might go back there sometime in the future. Maybe once Edward is a little bigger.

Due Date

August 10 was Pixel’s due date last year. Having Edward this year, I didn’t think it would bother me. And for the most part, I was ok. The actual day was when we were in Athabasca for a friend’s wedding celebration. About a week after the fact, it hit me.

It wasn’t something I had counted down to or dreaded since I have been busy with Edward. I felt a little bad that it wasn’t actually on my mind until I was reading some of the blogs I normally read. Two of the blogs I normally read were pregnant and due around the same time as I was. So after I got back from Athabasca and was catching up on all my internet stuff (blogs/facebook/email/etc), they had posts about their little ones 1st birthday. I was fine until then. Then I realized I should have been planning a first birthday. We should have been making a cake and seeing our little one in it. I never really thought about it much until those posts.

I know that it will be hard every year, but I am going to focus more on his May birth/death day instead of his due date. It was just weird to me to actually feel bad after seeing the posts from people I have never met besides over the internet whereas those friends I know who had babies last summer, I didn’t have any of these thoughts when they posted about their little one’s first birthday. It’s amazing what random things will set something off inside.

*sigh*

Dang.. everytime I catch up, I seem to fall behind shortly thereafter. I have 7 posts written and today finally finished getting the photos organized for them. I should be able to get them all up in the next couple days. It has only taken this long because once Edward goes down for bed at night, all I want to do is curl up on the couch and watch some netflix (the new season of Grey’s Anatomy is up!) or I have to do laundry. His naps during the day don’t leave me much time to get the kitchen clean and food prepped and eaten. I know that it will slowly get worse as he becomes more mobile and wants to help. I look forward to those exhausting days as well. 🙂
