2 weeks

2 weeks from now, Darrell and I will be hanging out at my parents house enjoying our vacation with our families. We are so excited and know that this is something that we need. Living so far away makes it hard to see family. We are lucky that we are able to afford to go home and visit for vacation. It will definitely be nice when we move back to within decent driving distance and the ability to go home for a long weekend.

Other than that, we set up the house a little bit for Christmas. We didn’t want to go all out as we are leaving and will probably take it down before we leave. Basically, we only put up the tree :). The cats love it! When we are asleep or not home they love to get into it and since it is a fake tree, they bend the branches, so we know they were in it. But when we are home, they pretend that they want nothing to do with it. Those devils! Our neighbor has said she will watch them while we are gone, and we are hoping they handle the length okay. They seemed fairly irritated at us after the trip to Phoenix when we were gone for 9 days. This time we are going to be gone for 13 days. We shall see how much they tear up the house while we are gone.

We got a little snowstorm on Sunday night/Monday morning. It ended up dropping about 1.5 inches. It has been a really cold week. I think that yesterday was the highest temperature we had all week at 52. We are coming out of the cold front and next week is suppose to get up to the upper 60’s. The best part of this cold front for me has been that the cats have been really cuddly and lovey. They are always curling up as close to me as they can and they want lots of attention.

I am feeling a little better. We had a relaxing weekend. It was nice, so we let the cats outside. Here is my favorite photo of the weekend:

Zedd enjoyed rolling around on the cool cement and the attention Darrell gave him.

I hope everyone is enjoying their respective Thanksgivings. I know we are. We were not able to travel for this Thanksgiving as we are planning on traveling for Christmas. We decided to spend the day at home making our own small(-ish) meal and enjoying each other.

These are the things I am thankful for:

1.) My wonderful, loving, funny, caring, passionate husband.

2.) Our Family & Friends

3.) Our Cats – Zeddicus & Poleeko – who always seem to know when we need a good laugh.

4.) Science and our RE. – They are what make it possible for Darrell and I to do what we can to try to have a baby. Without them, we would be forced to adopt.

5.) I am also Thankful for everyday that I wake up and go to sleep. We might not like it here in Texas specifically, but we force ourselves to succeed so we will someday be able to move back. So I am thankful as each day comes because it means we are one day closer to our goal.

I hope you all have things you are thankful for. I hope that you express your thanks in many ways instead of just on this holiday.

I was having a good week thus far relaxing after coming home to a broken pizza stone that the cats knocked off of the top of the fridge (and it landed on Poleeko’s tail, but he is okay). We had unpacked and were just relaxing while getting ready for Lorna to come visit and me to head to Houston to visit de Mort. It wasn’t going to be relaxing for long. 🙁

We had ordered a futon so that we would have the bed space in the extra room for when people come to visit and it was going to be delivered before Lorna arrived. I figured that giving the company 3 weeks was long enough to allow them to get stuff together and make a trip to Dallas to pick up the futon. I hadn’t heard anything so I called them on Tuesday and at first they were like “we can’t guarantee any specific delivery.” I was really irritated since before we ordered the sales guy said it would only take about 2 weeks to get. They finally told me that they would have it shipped instead and we should have it before Thursday night. So my fingers are crossed for that.

Then this morning, I drove my jeep to work and 1.5 hours later, when I was getting off the route, my coworkers asked me what was leaking under my jeep. Turns out I had a huge puddle the size of the hood under the car that had accumulated in the little amount of time I was gone. It was antifreeze, so I was thinking I might have to replace the radiator again. I headed straight over to the mechanic (as if you get there early, they usually have a little more time to fix things). I was hoping for a quick fix, but I am out of luck. Turns out that my water pump has a hole in it. Since you have to basically take apart half the engine to replace the water pump, it’s going to cost a pretty penny. :/ As long as he gets it fixed before I leave Friday morning so that Darrell and Lorna have a car to get around this weekend.

It’s Official! We are going to be in Southern California for Christmas!!! We bought our tickets last night. I am really excited since we haven’t spent a holiday with my family since 2008. Plus we will get some more time with our niece and get to meet our nephew who is due in less than 2 weeks. We are excited (or at least I am :P).

So that is what has been up in the last 3 days. There should be more coming in the next few weeks.

Oh No!!

So I came home on Thursday evening after having worked almost 12 hours, and Darrell came home right after me having been gone for about 9 hours. We wandered inside, put things away and started a general just got home regimen. I happened to go into our bathroom for some chapstick when I notice our closet door shut. Then I see the shredded carpet.

Darrell had accidentally pulled the door mostly closed in the morning and Poleeko had been sleeping in there. When Poleeko had tried to get out, he had shut it all the way. So he spent all day locked in the closet.

I spent about an hour cleaning the whole closet up looking for any of his accidents, but luckily, he had held it all day. Unfortunately, he wanted to get out so bad, he shredded about an inch of carpet near the door and the doorjamb. So now we are going to have to replace the carpet in the closet. Fun Fun! I think I would much rather have had to clean up a bunch of messes.

But who can blame him? He was closed up in the closet all day with no food or water when it was almost 90 degrees outside. So now we will have to make sure that we won’t accidentally close him in the closet again.
