10 weeks

Weekly Updates:

How far along: 10 weeks – 1/4 of the way there!!!

Baby’s size: Kumquat – Your baby, now barely the size of a kumquat, weighs less than a quarter of an ounce. (Length: a little over 1 inch, head to bottom.)

Sleep: Sleep has been good. Last couple of nights I had to wear my seabands to bed because I was to nauseous to actually sleep.

Maternity Clothes: Same as last week. I am in my comfy clothes since I sit around the house all day. But my jeans are starting to get a little snug.

Food Cravings: None.

Food Aversions: We made a chocolate Pecan pie on Sunday and I had a slice last night with ice cream. Definitely did not sit well, so I am still staying clear of many of the sweet items. I am also staying away from spicy things since they are starting to make me feel sick as well.

Symptoms I have: Still nauseous occasionally, but the Seabands have really been helping. I seem to only actually puke something up after I brush my teeth. 🙁

Doctor’s Appointment: Tomorrow morning! Then we call the midwife and MFM to set up appointments with them.

Movement: Nope. Lots of air bubbles though.

Belly Button: Innie.

Gender: We’re not finding out!

What I’m looking forward to: Getting the NT ultrasound at 12 weeks to make sure there are no neural tube defects and getting out of the first trimester! (Hoping the nauseousness goes away.)

What I miss: Being able to bake. I can’t seem to feel well enough to finish baking something on my own. Either that or I run out of energy about halfway through something. *sigh*

9 Weeks

Weekly Updates:

How far along: 9 weeks

Baby’s size: Grape – Your baby has grown to the size of a grape, weighs a fraction of an ounce, and is almost 1 inch long.

Sleep: Sleep has been fairly good, especially now that we put in blackout curtains. The only time I don’t sleep well is the night before an ultrasound since I have a small anxiety attack. I am hoping this gets better.

Maternity Clothes: Same as last week. I am in my comfy clothes since I sit around the house all day. 🙂

Food Cravings: I satisfied all my food cravings from last week. I don’t have any for this week yet.

Food Aversions: Still a no-go on a lot of sweets 🙁 I’m hoping that changes as the holidays are coming up and I have so many recipes I love to make and eat.

Symptoms I have: Nauseous & Dry-heaving — I finally was well enough to head out to get the Sea-Bands. They work! I am not near as nauseous as I was before, but I am still slightly nauseous. The only downside is that the pressure point they use makes my wrist hurt after wearing them for awhile, so I can only wear them about half the day. So far, if I wear them in the morning, I am usually fine the rest of the day. 🙂 Yay! Thanks Joni & Kendra!

Doctor’s Appointment: We have been released from the RE, so now I have to set up appointments with the OB and the Midwife. Midwife hasn’t called me back, but the appointment at the OB is for next Wednesday morning. Then the OB will refer me to the MFM and I will schedule an appointment there. Oh, the joys of being considered moderately high-risk.

Movement: None so far. Lots of bubbles, but no actual movement. We did see movement on the ultrasound yesterday!

Belly Button: Innie.

Gender: Unknown until birth.

What I’m looking forward to: Getting the NT ultrasound at 12 weeks to make sure there are no neural tube defects and getting out of the first trimester! (Hoping the nauseousness goes away.)

What I miss: Nothing yet. Give me a couple weeks and I might start missing not being able to see Sprout every two weeks. We will see how the appointments line up for the other doctors. Maybe we will have them split like we did last time so we see at least one of them every two weeks. Who knows!

Today we had our 2nd ultrasound at the fertility clinic. Everything is looking good. Sprout is growing properly and is even cooperating for the photos. When we got our pictures of Pixel during our 8th week, it looked just like the 6th week only bigger. You couldn’t tell that it was actually a baby. Sprout’s are a totally different story. We could see the umbilical cord going from Sprout to the placenta and we were able to see that the umbilical cord was pulsing normally. We were able to see the yolk sac that is slowly shrinking as the two lining are coming together. We could see the fluid where the brain is developing and it looked like everything was forming just like it should. We won’t know for fact until later in the pregnancy. We could see the little arms and legs forming, and Sprout even waved them around for us. It was such a better ultrasound than any we had with Pixel. We are so excited and happy.

Our clinic gave us the choice to either come back to them in two weeks for a last ultrasound or to go ahead and be released to the OB, Midwife, and MFM. We decided to go ahead and be released. So now I have to call both the OB and Midwife tomorrow to set up appointments. At our first appointment with the OB, we should be getting a referral to the MFM so that we can go ahead and do our 12 week Nuchal Translucency (NT) ultrasound there. That should be where they can tell us whether they see any defects in the forming of the spinal column and let us know what our chances would be for another neural tube defect.

That’s about it. We are excited that Sprout isn’t camera shy and is letting us get good ultrasounds. It certainly eases our minds a little bit. I admit that I have been having small anxiety attacks the night before each ultrasound and probably will before every appointment until we hear the heartbeat. I’m glad they only hit the night before instead of like the week leading up to it. I can handle one night of restless sleep. 🙂

So, pictures!

The picture on the left is of Sprout. The outlined area is the heart. You can see the umbilical cord towards the top of the screen and the little blob towards the bottom left is the shrinking yolk sac. The picture on the right is a measurement of Sprout. Measuring a few days behind, but fairly balled up, so it’s not a big deal.

These two look the same, but the picture on the left is of the front view of Sprout. You can’t make out facial features yet. The picture on the right is the backview and you can kind of see Sprouts spine.

And last but not least — the heartbeat! It was a beautiful measurement of 174. Perfect for this gestation! It was a very strong heartbeat with no dips (the dips you see on the measurement was the doctor accidentally moving the wand just a little bit).

So that is our little Sprout! We are almost 1/4 of the way there. 8 more days!

8 Weeks

Weekly Updates:

How far along: 8 weeks

Baby’s size: Kidney Bean – Your baby, now comparable to the size of a kidney bean (just over 1/2 inch long), is constantly moving and shifting.

Sleep: I have been taking fewer naps throughout the day, but I have been sleeping really well at night (for now).

Maternity Clothes:Same as last week. I am in my comfy clothes since I sit around the house all day. 🙂

Food Cravings: I have had two this week. I wanted a Whataburger Chocolate Shake and Darrell was kind enough to oblige over the weekend. And the other item I want is a BBQ bacon cheeseburger with the fixings. Yummy! I am hoping to talk Darrell into heading either to Red Robin or to Chili’s to fulfill this one sometime soon.

Food Aversions: Still a no-go on a lot of sweets 🙁 I’m hoping that changes as the holidays are coming up and I have so many recipes I love to make and eat.

Symptoms I have: Nauseous & Dry-heaving — nothing seems to be helping. I need to see about those sea-sick wristbands that my cousin told me about, maybe those will help. Today was the best day this week, but who knows how long that will last.

Doctor’s Appointment: Next Monday!! October 29. We will be going back to Ft. Worth and will be seeing our little sprout again.

Movement: None so far. I have felt lots of movement in the tummy region, but it isn’t Sprout.

Belly Button: Innie.

Gender: Unknown until birth. (at least that’s the idea for now)

What I’m looking forward to: Monday and making sure Sprout is still growing like (s)he is suppose to and still has a heartbeat. And getting the NT ultrasound at 12 weeks to make sure there are no neural tube defects

What I miss: We just got our order of wine from Navarro that we ordered in June. I wish I was able to enjoy a couple glasses. I might have a couple sips though :). Good thing we ordered the grape juice as well. 😛

** sorry for the bad photo. I did it with my cell phone and I have a hard time holding that still**

So, I have been a failure at this lately. I read through the rest of the prompts for the month, and nothing is really sticking out to me. I have posted some of the pictures for prompts before, and I am ok with not posting them again right now. I think a big part of this is because it is so fresh for us. So I will be stopping the Capture Your Grief for the month. (I suck and can’t seem to stick with anything :P)

A big part of all of this is because I have been feeling really crappy lately. I have had a lot of “morning sickness.” Most of it is dry-heaving, but I have constant bouts of nausea and am feeling a lot worse this time around than last time. Supposedly, the sicker you are, the healthier the pregnancy is. At this point, I am just waiting until the end of it. I hope that it doesn’t stick around past 14 weeks. I am doing everything I can to try to stop it, but nothing is helping. Ginger (of any type) isn’t helping and the new prenatals the RE gave me aren’t helping (in fact they make it slightly worse, but it could just be because my body is adjusting to the different vitamin, so I am continuing taking it to see how I feel in a week). If anyone has any idea as to what will help, I would love some thoughts.

At least I am keeping everything down, but dry-heaving 3 times a day or so is not my idea of fun. 🙁

If the nausea doesn’t get better, I might end up asking the doctor for the prescription med that I turned down last time. As much as I don’t want to, I still need to be able to cook dinner and get myself food throughout the day instead of feeling nauseous and light-headed when I stand up.

I wish it was slightly easier, but I will do whatever I can to help this baby make it into my arms by June (no earlier than May though :P)

One more week until we get to see Sprout again. Yay!!
